Indiana Statewide Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement

In addition, for years we have housed mutual borrowers from other library systems in Lake County. Customers of the Hammond, East Chicago, Whiting, Lowell, Gary and Crown Point libraries can lend us all the materials. While, through this agreement, we are opening up a mutual loan to the whole state, it will not expand our service sector so much, since we already serve most of the people closest to us. The farther away a person lives, the less likely they are to do calculations to borrow books: rather, they are served by other, closer libraries that also participate in this program. The materials that borrowers can remove are different from library to library. Some allow DVDs and other AV elements in addition to books. If you`ve found an Indiana library containing the item you want, call first to make sure you can borrow it as part of the National Loan Program! Anyone with a library card from one of the following libraries can now use that ID card immediately in the Middlebury Library, with the same lending privileges as our regulars. We are also members of the Indiana Statewide Reciprocal Borrowing Program. Leihan requests are sent by mail or email to another library page. Remote lending is offered by most libraries in the country that lend similar privileges to another library.

Library users who do not reside in Jeffersonville Township and wish to obtain a library card can purchase a non-resident card for 34 $US. You must always complete a library card application and present your photo card and proof of address and renew the card annually for the same fee of 34 $US in order to maintain the loan privileges. Plac is a program imposed by Indiana and is royalty-based, while mutual borrowing is offered at no cost. The PLAC is a national library card that allows the owner to lend materials to any public library in Indiana. An PLAC must be used to borrow materials from non-reciprocal lending libraries. For more information on PLACs, please visit the Indiana State Library website. The national loan in Indiana is a mutual credit program that covers the entire state. What is mutual borrowing, you ask? This is a library-to-library agreement that allows customers of one library system to remove materials from another library system. Once you have your card, you can check all the items in the library as part of its mutual loan agreement….
