Happy New Year!

Every now and then I find myself backed up with work! December was just such a time, not only were there all of the Christmas orders and deliveries for prints and wedding books but there were a number of shoots including portraits for Justine Wren, photography at Deepdene School in Hove, Jon and Becky’s wedding at St Mary’s in Shoreham and reception at Pangdean, photography at St Peter’s School and interiors and corporate shoots for a number of clients. Plus there was the small matter of Christmas (two very excited children) plus my wife’s birthday on Chritmas Eve to plan for. So apologies for not posting recently and I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!

This time of year is also about meeting couples looking for wedding photographers and over December and throughout January I have been and will be meeting a number of wedding couples to show them my work and discuss the various wedding packages I offer.

I always enjoy these meetings, first and foremost because I like meeting people, but also because it gives me a chance to almost see my work through someone else’s eyes. It makes me realize that over the last ten years shooting weddings I have amassed a huge collection of wedding photos and covered all sorts of weddings: funky Brighton civil partnerships, Indian wedding ceremonies, luxurious stately home weddings, small civil ceremonies and of course the traditional English church wedding. Each has its own new set of challenges and I try to adapt my approach and style to fit the couple and occasion.

It is always nice to get positive feedback and wedding meetings are a good way of measuring how well my work is received. The vast majority of people that I meet end up booking me and that is a sign that I am doing something right. I do not believe in pressure selling at wedding meetings as the choice of photographer is such a subjective decision. The wedding photographer inevitably spends much of the wedding day with the couple so it is essential that a couple feels relaxed with their photographer as this will result in nicer more natural pictures. A wedding meeting should be an opportunity for couple and photographer to meet and see the work without any pressure. If a couple likes me, likes my photography and the price is acceptable then I inevitably get the booking…
