Subject Verb Agreement Lesson Plans 8Th Grade

I understand that an important aspect of learning subject-verb concordance is to identify subjects and verbs in sentences. To make the first reading more interesting and therefore more relevant, I bring some magazines and ask my students to consult them. I then told them to find an article that they find interesting. You read the article and identify a singular subject and verb and a plural subject and verb. Students will be able to construct sentences in which the subject and verb correspond. (The treatment of conventions here should demonstrate mastery of language standards 1-3 up to and including CM1.) Recognize and correct inappropriate changes in the form of the verb.* You may be thinking, “Why the subject-verb agreement in 9th?” Many of my students have gaps in their grammar skills for a variety of reasons. Grammar is not a naturally exciting topic. Most high school students would rather do almost anything than learn and practice the laws of sentence building. However, since many of my students (and maybe a few of you) need additional verification and exercise when it comes to grammar, I teach a lesson on subject-verb agreement. Verifying the SubjectVerb agreement doesn`t have to be laborious. In this minilesson, high school students explore subject-verb concordance using real-life examples of newspapers and song lyrics. In addition to checking and identifying both correct and incorrect subject-verb correspondence, students examine when it may be appropriate to use non-grammatical language and talk about the difference between formal and informal language. They then invent quiz questions that they can share with their colleagues. The gist of the lesson is to ask students to know how this important grammatical rule is used (or deliberately ignored) in a large number of environments.

Then there is the revision and the new lesson of this lesson. With a Power Point presentation, I recap a brief lesson on singular and plural nouns and verbs. While I teach the rules of subject-verb agreement, I ask my students to copy notes into their diaries. A 60-minute lesson where students identify and practice subject-verb concordance. First of all, I choose some examples of student works and I project them on a screen with a docucamera. I will talk about the students` answers and why or why their circled subject-verb chords are correct. This unit for the English arts studies different types of verbs, including action, help, interconnection, the irregular and simple form of time, and the perfect immodification of time.
