Last week I did more photos for Porter & Davies. They have now launched new products including the TT6 equipped drum stools and platform.

The shots were taken at their premises in Sussex and for jobs like this I use portable studio lighting.

The two photos below were taken on the 25th March when I was photographing Sara & Ed’s wedding in Southwick. The ceremony and reception were held at Southwick Community Church on the green and pre-wedding couple photos were taken at Southwick Beach.

The majority of the photos taken on the day were shot using my Canon and Fuji pro digital cameras but these photos were taken using my old Canon A1 film camera, which I usually take along to weddings as I still love film photography.

I love taking photos of performers and concerts. These photos were taken last year for Ellie Goulding and Mastercard at her recent concert at One Maylebone, which is a fantastic intimate venue with great acoustics. The gig was part of the “MasterCard Priceless Gigs” series and photos taken captured Ellie’s performance and the unique customer experience. I offer a range of options for portraits and I aim to capture natural, flattering shots. I have found that the best results portrait sessions are at home, as studios can be quite intimidating (especially for younger children) and at home you have everything you need to hand. I have portable professional lighting and backdrops for more formal portrait sessions if required. If the sitter specifically wants portraits taken in a studio setting then I have a number of excellent studios in Brighton, Hove and London that I can hire…

Advertising photography requires that you see the bigger picture… When working with production and film companies the photographer has to work quickly and efficiently to capture shots on the fly without delaying or interrupting the filming process. I love this kind of work and recent shoots for McCann have included “behind the scenes” and stills photography during the filming of advertisements for Nestlé Shreddies and Mastercard.

Seven Cellars is a wine merchant and tap room in Seven Dials, Brighton offering an extensive range of quality wines, craft beers and wine tasting sessions. The shop is owned and run by wine business graduate Louise Oliver.

I recently captured a mixture of occupational portraits, exterior & interior premise photos and also photographed lots of bottles of wine as part of a #RetailPhotography shoot for Seven Cellars through Vivid Marketing.

This wine merchant is a gem for wine lovers, with friendly, helpful staff and an unpretentious atmosphere, specialising in excellent hand-picked wines and beers.

On the 20th July I was photographer at the BDF Partner Group Reception 2016 at Hampton Court Palace. I always enjoy working with BDF and have provided photography for them over the last few years. This event was organised by Jesse Newton and was a great success with informative and entertaining speeches and great networking opportunities in the sun.

On display at the event were some amazing art installations by James Lake and among the speakers were Adam Pearson, actor, presenter and producer.

This shoot was for Corporate Photography London Ltd who specialise in corporate portraiture, interiors and events.

Brett and André – Motwon Mondays

Good friends of mine, André & Brett Vincent run a great night at the Prince Of Wales in Brixton. It’s called #MotownMondays, takes place on the first Monday of the month on the #TamlaTerrace and is an excellent soul and funk night, celebrating everything from Motown, through Stax to 70’s funk. I was at the May Bank Holiday all dayer and captured these photographs.

Reception & Waiting Room at Devonport

General Practice Investment (GPI) is a company who manage the rebuilding, refurbishment and re-design of doctors’ surgeries, practices and consulting rooms. I have been providing photography for GPI for a few years now and I am usually called in to get the photos of completed projects once they are re-opened to the public. When carrying out this work I have to work fast to get the shots and have to ensure that members of the public are either not present in the shots or are unidentifiable. GPIC have dramatically transformed the surgeries I have photographed and have created clean, maintainable, aesthetically pleasing, well designed spaces for health care professionals to work in. I really enjoy this type of work and look forward to doing a lot more in the future.

Bramber Construction is a building company based in Shoreham By Sea. I have been appointed by Bramber to document their various building projects, from new builds and bespoke homes through to maintenance and renovation. I have been tasked to get photos of projects before, during and after the build process. The work is varied and means I could visit a building site one day and a completed beautifully designed and renovated country home the next.

Highgate Cemetery

During a recent trip to Highgate I revisited Highgate Cemetery. I have visited it often over the years as a couple of my relatives are buried here. It has been lovingly restored in recent years, is maintained by the Friends of Highgate Cemetery Trust and is open to the public.

Brighton Wedding Photography

Wedding Season is fast approaching again and I already have a few winter weddings and bookings into summer and next year. Over the next few months I will be seeing lots of wedding couples looking for their perfect wedding photographer.

Your wedding day is the one day in your life when you are surrounded by all your friends and family, so you want to be sure that you get it right! Using an experienced, professional wedding photographer is going to mean that your memories of the day are not left to chance.

When looking for a wedding photographer there are three main things to consider:

Do you like the style of the photography? Every photographer is different and has their own style, from traditional to modern, posed to natural. Choosing the photographer with a style you like is so important. Make sure you don’t just see the best 20 wedding photos on a website but try to see complete weddings and a good range of work.

Do you feel comfortable with the photographer’s personality? This is just as important! The photographer will be walking through your wedding day with you so you need to get someone you feel comfortable with. Make sure you meet the photographer properly and don’t commit to booking someone until you are ready.

Is the price right? This is perhaps the trickiest decision of all as you will inevitably know if you like the style and personality of the photographer. At the end of the day you have a budget, but it is the most important day of your life and you will want good photos to remember it by. Wedding photography prices range from a couple of hundred pounds to a few thousand and there are no guarantees that spending more will result in better photographs. The most important thing is to find out what you are getting for your money. Some photographers will include prints and websites, some will put restrictions on usage of the digital photos, some will professionally edit your photos, some include wedding books. Be sure there are no hidden extra charges and that you get what you pay for!

Other considerations are: How long has the photographer been in business? Does the photographer have all of the appropriate insurances? Does the Photographer use a mixture of film and digital cameras? Does the photographer offer additional extras? Does the photographer have a relaxed and friendly personality so guests and family are natural in the photos? Can the photographer deal with differing lighting conditions? Is the photographer able to orchestrate any group photos efficiently and speedily? Are there additional charges?

There are lots of things to consider so take your time, see as many photographers as possible, ask lots of questions and don’t be pressurised into making a commitment until you are completely sure.

Over the last six months I have done a number of shoots from leads generated through #Bark, including digital photos of paintings for an excellent Brighton based artist and a number of family and corporate portrait shoots.

Like many users of Bark I was worried that Bark was in danger of “biting the hand that feeds it” when they first changed the prices for suppliers, but I don’t mind paying when leads result in bookings. You can buy bundles of credits in advance and I will be using the service again.

Bexhill Academy Prospectus

I do a lot of schools photography and have recently completed #schoolsphotography shoots for both primary and secondary schools in Sussex. The emphasis is on photos that can be used to promote the schools and are used for prospectus, website and a range of marketing purposes.

In September I was at Bexhill Academy for Vivid Marketing. I do a lot of work for Gemma King who owns #VividMarketing, and also did the prospectus and website shoots for her at Shoreham Academy. The shoot was a great success, with a very busy schedule and we managed to get a really good range of photos showing the vibrancy and facilities at this very good secondary school.

Julian & Rachel

In July I was photographer at another stunning #LaughtonBarnsWedding. Julian and Rachel were married on the 4th July outside in beautiful bright sunshine surrounded by amazing countryside and joined by friends and family.

The wedding was a day to remember, organised by Circa Events, who ensured that the Barns looked immaculate, the food was delicious, the drinks were flowing and staff were helpful and friendly.

I love photographing weddings at Laughton Barns, there are so many great photo opportunities: picturesque barns set in an amazing countryside location.

Transformulas

It has been a really busy summer, with lots of corporate work in London and plenty of weddings in East and West Sussex. There have also been some great schools shoots for Vivid Marketing and Corporate Photography London and more shoots for Transformulas,  Adidas, Business Disability Forum and Nestlé. I will add posts about some of this work in due course.

Preparing for a mountain bike race

I often take my son to cycling events as he is a keen rider and part of the VC Jubilee team, competing in mountain bike, cyclocross, road races and time-trials. I always have a camera on me and try to get shots at each event. I have done a lot of cycling photography now and have provided images for Paralympics GB Cycling, Wiggle and Tour De France (pre race events at Brighton). The shot above was taken with my Olympus Tough camera. The shot below was taken with my Fujifilm X-E2.

Adidas have launched the new #AdidasXeno trainers and earlier this week I was taking photos for Adidas and Footasylum in Oxford Street, London, The Trafford Centre and Arndale Centre in Manchester. The shoot was organised by Studio Juice and I was working for Corporate Photography London. The main objective was to capture the new store displays which included a lenticular display at Oxford Street and fluorescent light strips at the Manchester Footasylum stores, requiring a polarising filter to minimise reflections. I was also required to get some point of sale and product shots.

Photography for BDF

The Business Disability Forum is the UK’s national employers’ network specifically focused on the topic of disability. I recently did two days photography at BDF shooting portraits, locations and photos highlighting disability at work. #PositiveDisabled

“We build disability-smart organisations to improve business performance by increasing confidence, accessibility, productivity and profitability. We do this by bringing together business people, disabled opinion leaders and government to understand what needs to change if disabled people are to be treated fairly so that they can contribute to business success, to society and to economic growth.”

Disability is a subject I am passionate about, over the years I have worked with a number of disability groups and charities including British Polio Fellowship and Paralympics GB. With my photography I show people with disabilities in a positive light, living life to the full and overcoming obstacles.

I had a great time with staff and guests at BDF. Special thanks to Vanessa Hardy who arranged the shoot and was a pleasure to work with. This was another shoot for Grantly Lynch and Corporate Photography London.

I have recently completed a three day shoot of architectural exterior photography of London buildings for LaSalle Investment Management, one of the world’s leading real estate investment managers. I really enjoy #ExteriorPhotography assignments and like the challenges involved with shooting out on the streets, trying to get uncluttered, evenly lit, scenic views of buildings. It is unfortunate though that every time you get a tripod out in central London, security guards or the police are on to you like a shot. The irony is that I am usually waiting for the people to disappear before taking the photo and if that is not possible then I am deliberately blurring the people for artistic effect so they are not recognisable and the focus is on the buildings, whereas everyone else snapping away capturing crystal clear photos on smart phones is ignored!
