In addition to offering photographic shoots, I also offer colour management, image editing and retouching services covering everything from managing colour space through to digital transformation. If you book me for a shoot then all retouching is included in the price but I also offer editing as a stand-alone service. Recent clients have included Nike, Partizan, Tetley Tea, KBC and TUI. I have just finished re-editing the complete collection of photos I have taken over the years for Russell Blake Furniture Ltd. I do a lot of shoots for #CorporatePhotographyLondon and recently did a shoot at Hammersmith Medical Research in West London, who are specialists in clinical pharmacology. The shoot covered a combination of corporate staff headshots and also some environmental portraits and medical procedure photography. These are always challenging shoots due to the reflective chrome and require a light tent, lights and a lot of patience.

I do quite a few #WorthingWeddings each year and last month I photographed Adrian and Rebecca’s wedding at The Ardington Hotel, which is situated on the lovely Steyne Gardens right next to Worthing beach.

For weddings I usually have three or four cameras with me including a film camera, a couple of Canon 5D’s and my Fujifilm X-E2. Adrian and Becky’s wedding day was a real celebration, with a great atmosphere and lovely people.

Last month I photographed Matthew & Victoria’s wedding at St Margaret’s Church Rottingdean and #PandeanBarn in Brighton. I often photograph weddings at  Pangdean which is one of my favourite reception venues with amazing scenery and a sense of laid back style. Fantastic food is prepared on site by Hunger Pangs. The evening entertainment was provided by the excellent Ronnie Scott’s Rejects.

After my last post about the importance of a good profile picture, I realised that my own profile photo was in need of an update. The shots below were taken at home on my Fujifilm X-E2 (ISO 400, wide open aperture f4, 1/125), once the lighting was arranged I set the camera to the very handy “interval timer shooting” (aka time-lapse) and took a number of portraits with and without my favourite old Canon A1.

Having a good #LinkedInProfilePicture is becoming more important than ever before. LinkedIn is a widely used and powerful business and networking resource and you want to create the right impression.

I do a lot of corporate portraits and head shots for companies and individuals and these are often used for LinkedIn, Twitter Facebook and other networking sites. I recently did some portraits for Anil Mistry, Creative Brain For Hire and he has now updated his LinkedIn profile photo.

Recently I have done a number of #RetailPhotography shoots in London and Manchester for Adidas. The shoots were to capture the Superstars and Climachill promotions at London stores Harrods, John Lewis, Peter Jones, Sports Direct, Size? Carnaby Street and Size? Neal Street and Manchester stores Footasylum at the Traffod Centre and Arndale Centre. The work was for Retail Photography London who I shoot interiors and products for on a regular basis.

During recent days out at #BrightonPavilion & #ShorehamBeach I grabbed these shots using my compact #OlympusTough camera.

I usually have this camera on me if I am out; it’s compact, waterproof, tough, has minimal shutter lag, a great f2 lens and some funky filters, it also takes great photos.

As David Bailey once astutely said when asked what was the best camera… “the one in my pocket”.

Last week I photographed the Virgin Holidays Winners Awards Evening at Café De Paris in London’s West End. The night was a great success rewarding the efforts of Virgin Holidays staff. Photos were supplied to Virgin the next day for various internal and external uses and social and business networking.

I do a lot of corporate events and award presentations and enjoy the work. They are usually joyful, colourful occasions where staff can ‘let their hair down’ for an evening and celebrate.

I am am an annual attendee at the World Travel Market and for the last three years my photos for KBC at WTM have made the front pages of various travel magazines.

There are new weddings that can be seen on the #WeddingPhotography pages of the Demuth Photography site now and some new photos added to the Weddings Portfolio pages. This is a busy time of year for me with lots of meetings with couples to discuss weddings.

The decision on whether or not to book a wedding photographer is normally down to three main things: First, the quality and feel of the actual photography. Second, how comfortable a couple feels with the personality of the photographer. Third, the price.

For weddings I work with a combination of film and digital cameras. It is essential that a couple likes my work and on my site you can see complete weddings, not just the best 20 or 30 wedding photos. As I will spend a lot of time with the wedding couple on their wedding day it is really important that there is a good rapport between us all. The final factor is price, and I try to be transparent with my pricing so that couples can budget easily, I also try to keep everything affordable and only charge £100 per hour.

The price includes all retouching, a set of prints, a high res disk and web gallery. If you consider that most weddings are 4-5 days work when you take into consideration, meetings, actual time taking photos, selection, retouching and creation of web gallery and disk, then it puts the price into perspective.

Recently there has been a massive increase in the number of wedding photographers, as cameras have improved more people have decided to become photographers, which is a mixed blessing. Yes, couples now have more choice and the prices have been driven down, but there are a lot of new photographers out there under-cutting prices and offering a poor service on the day and a poor end-product. Your wedding day is probably the one day of your life when you have all your friends and family with you and when you will want excellent photos that capture the day, from the spontaneous magical moments through to the family group portraits. Why would you gamble on the photography, the photos become the memories of the day.

Tour Of Britain, Pre Race Event

Lifestyle photography is a passion of mine. To try to define it or categorise it is to miss the point. #LifestylePhotography is capturing life as it happens and the world around you. There is no agenda and it is spontaneous. It is the reason most of us buy a camera, to capture precious moments and document life. I usually have a camera on me and don’t rely on smartphones, although some of them have excellent cameras now. The shot above was taken during the pre-race events at the Brighton finish of the Tour Of Britain (Canon 50D, 70-200 L lens, f5.6, 1/320, ISO 100).

The shot below was taken at home and is of Lola, our crazy spaniel, who is photographed a lot! The shot was taken using my old Canon A1, using natural light (f1.8, 1/125, 50mm lens, ISO 400 Ilford film). For as long as film is available I will continue to use it…

Portrait Photography London

I do a lot of portrait shoots, mostly families and children. Most of the portraits I do come off the back of other jobs. For example, I photograph a couple’s wedding and then a few years later they get me back to photograph the christening, and then as the family grows up I get called back to do more portraits.

I prefer doing portraits at the family’s home as you tend to get more natural shots and it is more convenient for the family and less daunting for the children.

I have portable lighting (studio lights and on-camera flash) to compensate for any lack of light. A two hour portrait session costs £150 for Sussex based shoots.

Sussex is a beautiful county with the South Downs and the coast. I am often out and about with a camera, sometimes the full kit (Canon 5D, three lenses and tripod) and sometimes with and old 1970’s film camera or digital compact. The shot below was taken with an Olympus Tough camera which is small enough to fit in the pocket, waterproof, shockproof and has some nice filters and a wide f2 lens. The wedding was a small family celebration at the bandstand and we then took some photos using the beautiful Brighton Beach as a scenic and dramatic backdrop. The intimate afternoon reception was held at Betty La La’s restaurant in Kemp Town.

I get to photograph quite a few christenings, baptisms and naming day ceremonies. Usually I have photographed the parents’ weddings and then I get asked to photograph the christening. The other Sunday I took photos of Ethan’s christening at St Mary’s Church in Westham. Brighton is a great city to get married in with so many amazing landmarks, the beach, fantastic architecture, cool hotels and a warm all-embracing atmosphere. I am privileged to photograph so many lovely weddings in the city.

A couple of weeks ago I photographed Mila & Nima’s wedding at St Peter’s Church in Hove, Brighton Band Stand and the beach.

This Saturday I am back in Brighton at the Band Stand photographing a wedding ceremony. A stunning wedding location with amazing views in all directions, on the edge of the beach in the centre of Brighton.

#LondonWeddingPhotography. Angus & Bethany were married at Chelsea Old Town Hall on Kings Road Chelsea on the 29th November and after some photos by Albert Bridge,  enjoyed the reception at Hollywood Arms (the venue featured in “Made In Chelsea”).

This Anglo-American wedding was a joy to photograph, in spite of the unpredictable weather. Angus and Bethany were brilliant company, looked fantastic and put on a lavish party for family and friends. The venues were stunning and a very good time was had by all.

The Holocaust Memorial

#BerlinPhotography. Berlin is an amazing city with a rich political and cultural heritage. I recently did a shoot with a school party visiting Berlin for School Travel Service. I have done a number of shoots for STS and enjoy working with schools groups. The shoots always require a combination of lifestyle, landscape and interiors photography.

I am fully CRB checked and work a lot with schools and colleges. The recent Berlin shoot will be used by STS for brochures, website and marketing and the photos have also been sent to the school. The itinerary included visits to: Brandenburg Gate, The Reichstag, The Holocaust Memorial, The Olympic Stadium, Berlin Wall Exhibition, Checkpoint Charlie, Topographie des Terrors, Saschenhausen Concentration Camp and the Berlin Wall Graffiti. Kingscote Barn is a beautiful wedding venue in the heart of the Cotswolds and the day was a fantastic celebration with all of the right ingredients for the perfect wedding: amazing weather, really friendly family and guests, good food, plenty of drink, lots of dancing and a very lovely couple.

Earlier this month I took photos of Mick and  Louise’s wedding. The ceremony was at Petersfield Registration Office and the reception was at the Bat & Ball pub, which is affectionately referred to as the cradle of cricket. The beautiful summer weather helped to ensure that the day was a great success and one of the highlights of the day was a cricket match on the famous cricket pitch between Mick’s family and Louise’s family.

The other week I took photos for Omar at the Jazz Cafe in Camden, London. The concert was promoting Omar’s fantastic new album “The Man” and it was great to hear a mix of some Omar classics and tracks from the new album.

Demuth Photography offers marketing photography for schools and provides the school with a database of photos that can be used for school prospectuses and websites. Recently I have been photographing at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Haywards Heath capturing “a day in the life” of the school. Photos taken emphasise the vitality of the school with an emphasis on the school’s core values. The photos are private view only for obvious reasons but a selection will be made available for parents and children at the school to view privately.

Product photography for Transformulas

Yesterday I shot four more product photos for Transformulas. The shots were done at my studio using a light tent. White paper was used to minimise the reflections and strips of black card were put in the tent to add contrast to the otherwise flat metallic surface.

April was a busy month with corporate assignments and as we are approaching wedding season I can expect to get busier over the next few months. I did two weddings in April and the galleries of photos are now on-line.

Brogan and Andy got married at St Nicolas Church in Portslade and then had their wedding Reception at Brighton & Hove Golf Club which is a venue I have photographed a number of weddings at with amazing countryside and a warm friendly atmosphere.

Brogan and Andy were very lucky with the weather with bright clear skies, perfect for beautiful outside shots. This was the third wedding I have done for Andy’s family and it was good to see so many friendly familiar faces. Rebecca and James got married at Hellingly Church and then had their wedding reception at Birling Manor, which is a venue that recommends me and is one of my favourite wedding venues.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been redesigning www.blog.demuthphoto.com and it is now live. I have gone back to a standard html website with a clean look and clear navigation. The most important feature is the redesign of the front pages, and the site is now tablet and iPhone friendly, as the flash content has been removed from all of the front pages. I love flash and it is a real shame that tablets, iPads and iPhones don’t support it, but since these are fast becoming the most popular way for people to browse the internet it makes sense to build a site that is complimentary.

With the never-ending, Arctic weather conditions it is important that we look out for the elderly as they are particularly vulnerable during prolonged cold spells. Age UK works tirelessly in communities to ensure that their homes are as energy efficient as possible, resulting in warmer, safer homes and reduced fuel bills.

I took photos with Age UK, Barnet a few weeks ago with one of their handy-persons visiting two independent ladies living alone at home. During the visits their homes were assessed and suggestions were made to improve energy efficiency and therefore reduce fuel bills. Simple advice given can lead to big savings and the importance of keeping warm during the current climate cannot be over-stressed.

Rainforest Life, London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo is one of my favourite places and I am very lucky to have a sister who is a keeper at the zoo.

A highlight of any visit to London zoo is a trip to the spectacular and steamy Rainforest Life, London’s only living rainforest where you can come face to face with a variety of amazing rainforest species including monkeys, sloth, armadillo and tamandua.

The conservation work that ZSL performs every year across the globe is helping to promote and protect animals and their habitats.

ZSL runs conservation programmes in Britain and over 50 countries worldwide; the conservation of wild animals and their natural habitats is fundamental to our mission. We work with local communities to conserve their environment and promote sustainability.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the zoo with my camera and I was in my element taking photos of the animals.

I was very fortunate to be able to get close to a number of animals including this very friendly hairy armadillo. The hairy armadillo not only looks weird, being the only mammal with a shell but it is also becoming more and more endangered in the wild.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Paul Demuth ensures that all of the key moments are caught during the busy wedding reception. A reception is a party and the photographer is there to take flattering and fun photos of the couple, their families and guests. 

Old Vic Tunnels, Leake Street

The South Bank is one of my favourite stretches of London. For years I worked here and it is a special place. A mecca for the arts, scenic London views, home to diverse architecture, amazing graffiti and of course the River Thames.

The landscape is constantly changing and evolving with renovation projects and new buildings appearing every time you visit.

The walk I often do starts at the graffiti tunnels by the Old Vic, then on to the London Eye, past the skate boarders next to Festival Hall, head east past the NFT and National Theatre (where I used to work) towards the Oxo Tower and Milennium Bridge then on past the Globe to London Bridge and the Shard. The walk is only a couple of miles but there is so much to see and on a good day you can get some amazing photos.

It is always a journey that brings back good memories for me and in spite of the ever changing architecture there is familiarity. I will be revisiting more London familiar  haunts over the next few months…

Lola In The Snow

This year winter seems to have been one of the longest winters ever. Last week when we had the heavy snow I was out and about getting some photos and they have now been uploaded to my website.

Hopefully that was the last of the wintry weather and we can now look forward to Spring and Summer.

Aerial Brighton

I have just uploaded some photos taken last month of aerial views of Brighton. The photos were taken from the top of one of Brighton’s best known housing tower blocks on the seafront which boasts stunning views in every direction encompassing full 360 degrees. When I was taking photos I could see way beyond Worthing to the west and Eastbourne to the east and I am assured that on a clear day you can see the Isle Of Wight.

I plan to go back to get some more photos soon of night time aerial landscapes using long exposures to capture the streaks of traffic headlamps and rear lights. I also plan to try out a new boom tripod to get better angles and even wider views.

I provide a number of photographic services for the travel industry. From lifestyle and resort specific photography through to hotel interiors and 360 degree panoramic photos. More often than not I offer all of these in the same shoot, saving the travel company money. I do not rights restrict my photography and the companies have unlimited use of all photos taken.

Over the years I have worked with package holiday companies, adventure holiday providers and schools travel companies. I am fully CRB checked, have a range of cameras and lenses and try to get natural photos that don’t look posed. I am looking forward to more travel shoots this year.

Same sex marriage seems to be a hot topic at the moment. Barely a day goes by without it being discussed in the news and it appears to be a contentious issue. As a wedding photographer I do a lot of gay weddings or civil partnerships and I love the real sense of celebration and long-overdue justice at gay weddings. It is an honour to photograph any wedding, gay or straight, as you are capturing precious, personal and historic memories. The big debate at the moment is whether gay weddings should be allowed to be celebrated in churches and I personally think that there are probably enough churches that would welcome the chance to hold same sex marriages and that they should be allowed to, and that these marriages should be officially recognised by the law. I love church weddings and if a gay couple is religious and wants to get married in church then they deserve the same opportunities as everyone else.

A couple of weeks I took photos of Sue and Jo’s civil partnership at the Antoinette Hotel in Kingston Upon Thames. In 2007 I was one of the contributors for the book “A Very Pink Wedding” by Nicola Hill which is a gay guide to planning your perfect wedding day. I was also Nicola and Laura’s wedding photographer. The book is full of information and is widely available. Last year I worked with Age UK providing photography to promote the campaign “Spread The Warmth”. In addition to lifestyle portraits of older people who have benefitted through this campaign, I also took photos at The House Of Commons for Age UK & Age Action Alliance. The photos were of MP’s demonstrating support for the campaign and have been used to generate publicity and awareness.

This winter has been especially harsh with sub-zero temperatures and ice and snow causing treacherous conditions. The elderly are particularly vulnerable at this time of year and Age UK is raising awareness and tackling the issues which affect older people.

Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign is calling for action to reduce the numbers of older people who die preventably every winter. Through the campaign the charity is highlighting the role that MPs can play in ensuring that this issue is a health priority in this country. You can support the campaign by emailing your MP here.

Winter weddings are becoming increasingly popular and have a touch of sparkle especially during the run-up to Christmas. The weather may be less predictable but even weddings in peak Summer can disappoint when it comes to sunshine. Couples will often find that, unlike in summer when lots of people are away, all the invited guests can usually attend and as an extra bonus everything is slightly cheaper.

I always enjoy photographing winter weddings and I reduce my rates for Autumn and Winter weddings as I tend to have less wedding bookings outside of peak wedding season (April to September).
